Well, I was able to squeeze in one more Oscar winner. 1938's, The Life of Emile Zola. Given its age and setting (late 1800s France) I wasn't sure what to expect. It was fantastic. A biographical pic as timely today as when it was made.
Its themes of governmental abuse of power, antisemitism, and political divide sadly
are being mirrored now, over a century later. Actor Paul Muni, as writer and
journalist Emile Zola, gave an amazing performance. The courage of a single man
willing to speak out for truth will hopefully always win.
"J'accuse!"
