LONESTAR

Lone Star (1996) turned out to be a fantastic film. The unfolding story is told in a non-linear fashion bouncing back and forth from present and past. Chris Cooper is magnificent as Sam Deeds, the low-key Sheriff of a Texas border town. The story connects the racial tensions and conflicts of the area's Hispanic, African American, Native American, and white citizens with all the trappings of the typical Peyton Place suburbia.

The pacing was superb, and the acting top notch. Kris Kristofferson as the self-serving racist Sheriff of days past, Frances McDormand in a small role as Deed's mentally ill ex-wife, and the under-recognized Elizabeth Pena as Deed's childhood sweetheart are among the standouts.

The haunting wrinkle as the film concludes leaves one questioning... which means the movie will stick with you for quite some time. This was a great recommendation.
