Well, one more off the 2020 list. I took in Gigi late this afternoon. It was the 1959 Oscar winner for Best Film.
Wow! To my memory, I don't think I've seen a film that used enhanced coloring like this one. The overabundance of primary colors, the vibrant secondary and pastels, and just the bold contrast. It was a feast for the eyes!
I've always been a huge fan of Louis Jourdan and he didn't disappoint. The entire cast was great, but I found it odd that there really weren't any outstanding singers... being a musical. Much too much "talking-singing" for my taste but it worked as the French dialects attempted to cover this. I will say that in the age of Jeffrey Epstein, the idea however of a young teenage girl being groomed to be a mistress, and then being spanked by the adult that ends up wooing her was a bit icky and dated. (When in France?!)
